Homemade Dog Food and Your Dog's Nutrition

A dog is a person's best friend. This is how most people treat their pet dogs. That is why they want only the best for their dogs, most especially when it comes to their food. Given that fact, convenience usually takes a backseat when dog nutrition is the subject. Most dog owners would sacrifice their time and effort just to make sure that they give their pet dogs' healthy food. Rather than buy ready made commercial food in the grocery, which ingredients they are not sure about, these dog owners would opt to have a homemade dog food prepared for their pets.

After all, with the huge number of dog food recipes found online, they will never lack of sources for the daily food to serve to their dog. What is important however is to make sure dog's nutrition is taken in consideration in every recipe they will cook.

Dog

With the potential for danger not only from commercial foods but even some of the ingredients for homemade ones, some vital information should be remembered for the sake of your dog. The usual healthy dog food would basically have a mix of vegetables, meat and starch. If your dog is switching from commercial to homemade food, you can mix a little of the former to the one you prepared to allow your dog to slowly get used to it.

It would be better to ask your veterinarian if it is a wise move to switch. Bear in mind that a well-balanced dog diet is one with 30% veggies, 30% starch and 40% meat. It would be good to note that most often than not, the meat in commercial foods is of a certain quality that is not fit for human consumption, why give it to your dog then?

Rotate the type of food you will give to your dog so as it will not tire of its food. For your pet's starch requirement, you can make use of rice, pasta, oatmeal or potatoes. For a variety of homemade dog food recipes, you can always refer to the internet and you will surely not lack of choices. But always keep in mind of the nutritional value contained in the ingredients of your homemade dog food.

Homemade Dog Food - Your Hunting Dog Will Love You

My two Vizsla hunting dogs get homemade dog food twice each day. I mix an adjusted amount with good quality dry kibble.

Homemade dog food can be better than some commercial products. We don't realize what's in the food we give our pets. Always inspect the ingredients.

YOUR DOG

Commercial dog foods can contain preservatives, and are altered by chemical processes that can be unhealthy for dogs. They can also contain processed unknown animal products and fillers that do nothing to contribute to your pet's health.

To avoid your dogs ingesting unknown dog food ingredients, make your own. Control not only the content, but the quality as well.

Reasons To Consider A Homemade Dog Food

dog has allergies to food persistent skin problems gastrointestinal upsets including diarrhea or constipation competes in sporting events or working stock and needs strength for endurance control of quality and freshness nothing processed so food retains all the vitamins, antioxidants and enzymes

Observe your dog to see he is getting his required dog food nutrition.

shiny coat, illustrious feel sparkling eyes alert, good energy and activity maintain weight without getting fat stool firm and consistent

An appropriately balanced dog food recipe contains roughly 40 percent meat, 30 percent starch and 30 percent vegetables.

1. Meat: Any type can be included. Organ meat, such as liver, is particularly healthy for dogs. Bones should be removed as they are a choking hazard. Cook the meat - uncooked meat can contain unhealthy bacteria and possibly parasites.

2. Starch: Most forms are okay - cooked pasta, potatoes, and rice are common choices for homemade dog food.

3. Vegetables: Most types can be used. Do not use onions as they can be toxic. Cook the vegetables - raw veggies can pose a choking hazard.

Recipe For Quick Adult Homemade Dog Food

This recipe will feed a 50 pound adult dog for one day. If your dog in smaller or larger then the 50 pounds, adjust the amount of ingredients. You can cook enough for many days, divide accordingly and freeze the rest. This food has No preservatives, so refrigerate the fresh food for 3 days maximum. The human vitamin supplement Theragran-M Advanced and calcium carbonate (example: Tums) can be found in any pharmacy. 5 oz. dark meat chicken or turkey beef or fish 2 1/8 cups cooked brown rice 1 tsp. corn oil 1/2 tsp. salt 2 pills Theragran-M Advanced (crushed) 2100 milligrams calcium carbonate (crushed)
Directions: Cook rice until done. Bake your meat, poultry, or fish choice 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Crush human vitamins and "Tums". Mix all ingredients.

Pay attention to your dog's response to the new dog food recipes you use. There may be items they refuse to eat or have reactions to a particular food. Try something else in their place, such as substitute chicken for turkey or rice for potatoes. Be aware for changes in your dog's behavior, especially things such as excessive scratching. This could indicate an allergy to one of the foods you are using.

Homemade dog food recipes generally cause fewer allergic reactions than commercial brands. Plus, by making dog food recipes at home, you can control the proportion of different ingredients. This can be very important to working and sporting breeds that may require more nutrients for their active lifestyles.

While in the kitchen, why not whip up some dog biscuits. Recipes can be found on the Internet, or try your library. Here is an easy dog biscuit recipe, use it for training or a treat. I have never met a dog who didn't love his cheese!

Any Cheese Biscuits1 cup all purpose flour 1 cup whole wheat flour 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or any cheese in the fridge)... dogs Love any type of cheese! 2 tbsp. butter 3/4 cup milk, lowfat grated parmesan for topping (if you have it on hand)

Always check with your Veterinarian before making any changes to your dog's diet. For any type of dog, homemade dog food is a good choice to ensure they live a long, happy, and healthy life.

Next time you buy canned or packed dog food you should check the best before date. It is surely at least a couple of months ahead of the time in which you purchase the product. In order for the ingredients to be preserved for that long the food should contain all sorts of additives. These are not as harmless as you might think. It is true that these chemical compounds cannot affect your dog's health now, but as they pile up in its bodily organs they can become dangerous. There is now such risk if you use homemade dog food recipes to prepare meals for your pet. Quite the opposite, you can use all sorts of healthy and organic ingredients.

Another problem with the ready products available on the market is that they usually contain soy, grains and even corn. These ingredients are not good for your furry friend. They can cause allergies and digestive tract problems. These are also responsible for the formation of teeth calculus, which is extremely harmful for dogs. Your pooch will not have these problems when you prepare food that does not contain such ingredients. It will be healthy and happy as long as you use some simple homemade dog food recipes to prepare nutritional meals full of proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Three Things to Know Before You Feed Your Cat Homemade Cat Food

Cats that eat homemade cat food are much healthier then cats that eat commercial cat food but some of our food is poison to them. Cats can not have onions, garlic, or chives. Anything in that vegetable family is off limits. It is poison!

Cats also can not have tomatoes, raisins, or chocolate. I've heard of a cat dying from eating just one cherry tomato. Now I'm not telling you this to scare you because your cat will live a much longer, healthier life with homemade food. I just want you to be aware that there are danger foods.

SPAYING

Did you know that cats are actually lactose intolerant? Milk will not kill them but it will make them feel bad. Cats don't have the enzyme to break down the sugar in the milk. If you want to use milk in your homemade cat food use lactose free milk. Lactose free milk is just milk that has the sugar already broken down. You can buy it at any grocery store.

Cats need a lot of Taurine. Taurine is an essential amino acid that is required for the digestion of fats in the small intestine. Taurine is also required for a cat's nervous system to work, for their sight (without enough taurine a cat will lose it eye sight within two years), and for their muscles to work properly. Cats have to get this amino acid from the food they eat. Taurine is found in raw meats. Again this is just something you need to be aware of.

Keep Your Dog Healthy By Homemade Dog Food Recipe

When you think about it, what does your dog need from its food in order to be healthy?

pamper your dog

Today our pets have a wide variety to meet their tastes and needs and we have our choice of what kind of food we can choose to feed them. Despite the variety, pet foods usually fall into three major categories. These categories are: Grocery store foods, these types of dog and pet foods are usually found in grocery stores and mass marketed retailers and can contain lower quality, less expensive ingredients. The second category is "premium dog foods," which can also be found in grocery's stores but are also found in pet stores and through your local veterinarian's office.
These types of foods are usually made from some higher quality ingredients and are usually made evident by the expense of the food. Some of these pet foods though can contain lower quality ingredients that you aren't aware of. The third and final category is homemade dog food.More and more people are beginning to make their dog's food at home rather than
buying commercial formulas. Homemade dog food doesn't contain any substances
that could possibly be harmful to your dog's health such as artificial coloring
and artificial flavors.

YOUR DOG

Another reason to make homemade dog food is the preservatives added to the commercial dog food. Homemade dog food has the benefit of optimum freshness without preservatives.

There are dogs that would greatly benefit from a homemade diet. Some dogs who suffer from allergies that cause severe itching may find relief once switched from commercial dog food to a homemade diet.

Processed dog food is a relatively new product and scientists don't fully understand the differences between commercial food and a diet of fresh food. There may be problems occurring in a dog's health because he is being given food that has had the nutrients cooked out of it and then sprayed back on.

Would you like to prolong the quality and length of your dog's life by 135%?You should keep your dog healthy by homemade dog food.
