Training Your Dog - How to Train Your Dog Not to Jump Up on People

You may have experienced visiting another persons' house when you are almost knocked over by a dog jumping up on you that has not been trained. This is the way dogs greet each other in the wild. This may not be a problem when the dog is a puppy but they have a habit of growing up. Since there are people who do not like dogs, they will not appreciate this activity. If knocked down a child, or infirm person could suffer serious injuries.

The best time to train a dog not to jump up is when it is still young. Once the dog gets older, it can be difficult to beat the habit. If owners have to yell at their dog to get down, it shows they have no real control over training their dog properly.

YOUR DOG

An effective obedience training way of stopping your dog from jumping up is to gently grasp its two front paws. Hold on until it struggles then let it go. Be careful as it may nip your hands in order to get free. With some dogs this training method can show almost immediate results, especially for large dogs.

Another training method when your dog tries to jump on someone is to put their front feet firmly back on the ground. This method is more suitable for small dogs rather than bulky ones. Give a verbal command such as "down"or "sit down". Reward your dog with a morsel of food they like when they sit still without moving. When you are encouraging it to do this, it pays to be at the lowest eye level you can get. Your dog will respond more effectively when it sees you are in closer eye contact level rather than standing over it.

When training your dog consistency is most important. This means educating all the family to use the same repetitive commands and actions. If it does not receive consistent instructions, its training will become haphazard.

There will be times when you as a dog owner will become frustrated when your dog does not do as you ask. Persistent and regular training is necessary to achieve results. Your dog needs to learn to be obedient and do whatever you say. It needs to understand you are the dog owner and to respect you as such. You will soon know who is top dog in your family group as your dog will greet you more enthusiastically than others in your family.

The are basic activities other than training which make your dog happier and more manageable. It needs lots of physical activities including regular exercise. Also, give it a chance to play outside so it can get some fresh air and run around. Not all dogs will chase a ball but if yours does then you can play fetch the ball. Test how excited your dog gets when you say "go for a walk".

Dog Training - 3 Tips to Stop Your Dog from Jumping on People

A sure sign of a well-behaved dog is when you enter someone's home and their pet does not jump on you in greeting. Not only is jumping on guests annoying, it can be dangerous. Large dogs can knock people down and are capable of seriously injuring small children or the elderly. Not to mention all the mud he gets on your clothes on rainy days!

stop your dog from barking

Jumping on people is also a sure signal that your dog thinks he's the leader of the pack. Watch dogs together and you'll see them exhibiting the same behavior. Allowing your dog to jump on people undermines all your training.

YOUR DOG

These dogs have learned if they jump on people they get attention and often petted. Your job is to help them unlearn that with positive reinforcement. Here are some tips to help you do just that:

1. Ignore your dog when you arrive and leave the house. Ditch the long goodbye and the long-lost dog owner greeting. Don't greet your pet for five minutes once you get home. This will help break the habit.

2. Do you want to dance? If a week or so of not greeting your dog doesn't break the behavior, try this on your medium or large dog. When he jumps on you, firmly grip his paws while he's still on his hind legs. Hold them without squeezing until he starts to squirm, then firmly command, "Off!" Some trainers recommend stepping on your pet's back paws at the same time, but this could cause injury to your pet's delicate feet. Holding his front paws, sometimes for several minutes, will do the trick and won't be painful.

3. Use the leash. If guests are coming over, keep your dog on a leash. When he jumps on the visitors, pop the leash to engage his training collar, command, "Off!" and lead him to the other side of the room. Praise him after you lead him away.

SPAYING

The first main reason why people love the Halo cat food is simply because of the fact that the food is of an extremely high standard. Definitely, you do not expect to spend money and then come to realize that the product that you spent your money on was absolutely useless. Instead, it is always very advisable that you spend your money on a product whose quality you can be sure of and which will benefit your cat in the way that you would like. The good thing with this brand is that the people who prepare the food are not just people who are second guessing, but they are people who know what they are doing, and are doing whatever they are doing very well.

Long Lasting

The second thing that you need to know about the Halo cat food is the fact that the food is extremely long lasting. This is a very important thing to consider because of the fact that you do not want to buy cat food only for you to come and see later on that the food that you have spent so much money on will not last a few days. Instead, you want to know that you can have sufficient stock in your house without having to worry about the longevity of the food. The reason why the food is long lasting is simply because of the fact that they have been able to put in preservatives that will not make the food dangerous to your favorite pet.

People Food Can Be Harmful to Your Dogs Health - 10 Human Foods to Never Feed Your Dog

Growing up twenty years ago people didn't really know about table scraps harming their dog. After dinner we would take all the leftovers and make a leftover gravy to dump over their dry dog food. You just can't do that anymore.

pamper your dog

Most dogs will eat anything. Sometimes without even chewing. But you need to be careful on what to feed them. There are certain foods you should never feed your dog.

YOUR DOG

First of all, never give your dog any chicken bones. Pork and fish bones are also just as bad. They can splinter and get stuck in their jaw or throat. This can cause choking and even tear up their digestive system.

2. You may have heard not to feed dogs chocolate. This is true and includes white and baking chocolates. The darker the chocolates the more harmful.

3. No tea or coffee or anything with caffeine in it. There is a substance that can be extremely toxic and cause seizures. It can also effect the heart and nervous system.

4. Grapes or raisins if fed to your dog can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and even kidney failure.

5. Dogs should not drink dairy products. Unlike most cats, dogs are lactose intolerant. There are however special milks made for dogs.

6. No Avocados. Everything to do with avocados including the tree, is toxic to dogs.

7. Dogs love gum, but sugar free gum contains a substance called xylitol. It can rapidly lower your dogs blood sugar levels and that can be deadly.

8. Do not give your dogs mushrooms because they may contain toxins that cause liver and kidney damage.

9. Onions that are raw or even cooked can be bad for your dog. They can damage a dogs blood cells and cause anemia.

10. And last on this list is macadamia nuts. They contain a compound that if eaten by your dog will cause temporary hind leg paralysis.

No one wants to feed their dog anything that will make them sick or worst. Hopefully this list will help you avoid those mistakes. Also take some extra time to analyze what you have been feeding your dog. It could make all the difference in their health and well being.
