Many people buy a puppy on a whim. They really need to understand the important responsibility that comes along with being a pet owner. It is really easy to buy a dog from a breeder but not so easy to care for one if you do not know what to expect.

Certain personalities are inherent in certain breeds of dogs. Some are friendlier than others. Some are known to be aggressive. This is important to know if you want a watch dog or one who is playful with children or other dogs. Do not try and train an unfriendly breed to be friendly. You would be going against their nature.

Once you purchase a dog, you are its owner and the one responsible for its care for the rest of its life. The contentment and physical condition of the dog are your responsibility. If the dog us to grow up well it will be your job to make this happen.

Immunizations are important for a dog. Ask the breeder what the regimen is for immunizations for the different breeds you are considering. Have a veterinarian in mind to administer these immunizations.

Do not forget issues of spaying and neutering. Timing of these procedures depends on the breed of the dog. Doing the surgery at the right time will prevent problems.

Pets are bound to be around people. You will want to ask the breeder if the dog has had any type of behavior training.

Certain breeds of dog are prone to particular health problems. Breeds also have different nutritional needs. Understand the needs of your dog and you will have a healthy and happy dog.
