After spaying a dog will you notice them behaving differently?
A question I see repeated many times in the dog forums is "Will my pooch still be the same lovable character after the spaying surgery?"
SPAYING YOUR DOG
Well great news! Spaying a dog will not effect their friendliness, playfulness or that personality you love
But your dog will change!
Roaming
When on heat (which happens generally twice a year) your dog will actively try to seek out a male risking getting lost or injured. Spaying will reduce or eliminate her drive to roam whilst on heat. The other alternatives to stop unwanted accidents or pregnancies is an escape-proof yard or keep her indoors for the duration.
Mood swings
The heat cycle causes hormonal changes within your dog, with some dogs becoming irritable and moody or even nervous. A spayed pooch does not experience hormonal changes so her moods are far more stable.
Frequent urination
Females in heat urinate often to attract male dogs with their scent, this can lead to more frequent urination sometimes in the house.
Spotting
Bleeding is another unwanted side effect of your dog been on heat.
Aggression
Dogs have a habit of been more aggressive in heat sometimes fighting for a male dogs attention. Been moody or irritable can also cause your pet to snap at people.
False Pregnancies
Spaying a dog eliminates the chance of a "false pregnancies". Some dogs even go though the symptoms of a normal pregnancy including producing milk. Another side-effect is they may adopt an object as her own and guard it like they would a puppy.
Unless you have serious intentions about been a breeder and have the money and environment to accommodate the pups spaying a dog is by far the best option. Please do not add to the problem of unwanted pets.
